SLAIT interview
If you were going to do an interview online would you hope to have a voip option? of course you would. But what if the voip isn't set up on the interviewees side. H,mmm. well it makes for an interesting development in Machinamentary filmmaking. As it turns out it's not as bad as it may seem. It's a little like interviewing Stephen Hawking. Oooohhh dear me. Did he really say that? Yikes. Really though, it's an interesting development in the differences between documentary vs machinamentary. I have in the window recorded, the text chat. Post production will simply need to consider alternatives in editing to make it work. I'm kind of glad it happened actually. a pleasant surprise with both interviews so far. Rick and Kirk are the Thrsday victims, but I'll be out numbered so we'll see what surprises are in store for me then.

More interviews scheduled
Well I hope everyone had a good time at Emma. Looks like you had a hard working crew (except Dave).
I've got another interview scheduled inworld with Kirk Kezema and Rick Schwier whom I'm sure you all know. They've got a self-directed learning project in Second Life that we'll be discussing. Visit the UofS space here in SL
The third and final interview I'm arranging a time for is with Dr.Martha Burkle from SAIT in Calgary. Dr. Burkle has designed a series of Lab spaces in SLAIT, sait's inworld campus, for training purposes. I met Martha Burkle at this years CNIE conference in Ottawa. Martha delivered a CIDER session demonstrating SLAIT earlier this year. You can see her elluminate presentation here.
These three interviews will demonstrate three different uses of SL for education. Nice.

Stratton Interview
Well the Bryant & Stratton Interview went really well. Got a tour and a talk with admin. really interesting stuff. Something unexpected happened too that I thought was interesting. I was very concerned with keeping the screen clear of clutter, maps, popup windows, even names and usual visual ques built into second life.ff I tried to keep my capture from seeing these things. Half way through my interview a lady from McGraw Hill joined our conversation and began asking questions through the text window. these texts appeared in my capture window much to my dismay. I then realized that a back channel was being created within my interview. This is something that would never happen in traditional documentary filmmaking, but because there were no camera's no boom pole etc. Tammy, had no idea I was recording. The back channel added a whole other level of conversation that was remarkable. I see a whole new genre breaking out here. There's a lot of possibilities I had never considered. I am officaially coining the phrase, Machinamentary!!! I googled it and it doesn't exist so it's mine.

Video Comments anyone?
Com'on! I leave a video comment widget on the page and NOBODY is gonna take advantage of it? You don't need to comment on the Blog or the content, just do something stoopid, like on Much Music's Speakers Corner. No that's showing my age. Speakers Corner hasn't been around since like '97. So give it a try I'd like to see how it works for you.
First Machinima
I thought I'd post the machinima project I did in '07 so that there would be something to compare this new project too. Lookin' for, "better than that".

Bryant & Stratton College
I've secured my first interview with Bryant and Stratton College. They are offering several programs within Second Life and on June 11th they are having the First Graduation in-world, ever. One of the co-founders of SL will be the keynote speaker at the graduation. Although it is closed to family and graduands, I've been granted access for "filming purposes and plan to interview students on campus. I'll also be given a guided tour of the campus by Scott Taylor, Director of Admissions for Online Education. Check out the story on the Grad here and the college program here.
